“Stop Asian Hate: Anti-Asian Violence and Racialized Experiences of Asians and Asian Americans” will be from 2-3:30 p.m. Friday, March 26, on Zoom.

The Zoom discussion will include an overview of anti-Asian violence and Asian racialized experiences, a discussion panel, and brainstorming for a better future.

“The horrific violence against Asians and Asian Americans is an escalation of the hate crimes we have experienced since the beginning of the pandemic,”  said Dr. Li Zeng, president of AsiaConnect. “Many of us feel angry, sad, frustrated, and scared. At such a moment of crisis it is particularly important for our community to stand together, to support each other, to form a collective effort to fight hate crimes and xenophobia.”

The event is open to Illinois state faculty, staff, students, and the Bloomington-Normal community. Those interested can register here.

“Asians and Asian-Americans have unique experiences of microaggressions and systemic oppression in this racialized society,” said Mayuko Nakamura of the University’s Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology, who is helping to organize the event. To make the invisible reality a bit more visible, we’d like to speak up and unite with the anti-racism efforts on campus.”
