In anticipation of federal funding from the American Rescue Plan, Gov. J.B. Pritzker asked education experts to compile best practices and recommendations on how to best support students as they return to the classroom (academic and behavioral counseling, out-of-class experiences, after-school programs, summer camps, individualized student profiles).

These recommendations can be found online through the P-20 Council’s Learning Renewal Resource Guide. The P-20 Resource Guide is a collaborative document that details a set of opportunities to invest in learning renewal. This guide is meant to be informational, not directive, and inspire actions that will drive learning renewal. The detail within this guide is meant to help inform spending decisions of not only new federal dollars but also existing funding that will continue in the longer term and future federal aid.

This guide is designed, with the input of more than 300 stakeholders, to support school districts as they develop ideas and initiatives for the funding they will receive. Dr. Erika Hunt, one of the contributors of the guide, believes “that this guide will especially be beneficial to all education organizations serving birth through post-secondary students as the guide was developed through a systems-spanning lens designed to help all education organizations with the learning renewal process needed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic”.
