Illinois State University’s Alumni Association understands that the core values of the University do not stop after graduation. To align with the value of civic engagement, the association’s Redbird Engagement and Development (RED) Committee and the University’s Center for Civic Engagement are encouraging Redbirds to come together to show what it means to make a #RedbirdImpact this June with a day of service on campus, a chance to donate to a school drive online, and a call to serve across the world.
#RedbirdImpact Day of Service invites all alumni and friends to travel to campus for a safe Saturday to serve and connect with fellow Redbirds. Participants will work with the Illinois State Horticulture Center Saturday morning and the Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore Saturday afternoon.
Saturday, June 19, 2021
9-11:30 a.m., ISU Horticulture Center
1:30-4 p.m., Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore
Breakfast and lunch will be provided. A limited number of spaces for each activity is available. Guests can register for one or both service projects. Registration is available through noon on June 11 online or by contacting Alumni Engagement at (309) 438-2586.
Public health guidelines will be followed including physical distancing and face coverings where required.
How else to make a #RedbirdImpact
Support Bloomington/Normal area children through a school supply drive for the Back to School Alliance. BTSA is a local nonprofit organization that works to put backpacks and school supplies into the hands of students in need prior to the start of the school year. Participants can drop off supplies at the Alumni Center or Center for Civic Engagement or donate items online.
Other projects include:
Chicago Suburban Alumni Network, June 12 from 9 a.m.-Noon @ Northern Illinois Food Bank
Chicagoland Redbird Service Day, June 26 from 9 a.m.-Noon @ McCormick Woods
Peoria Area Alumni Network, June 26 from 9-11 a.m. @ Midwest Food Bank-Morton
Throughout the month, alumni can also share why it is important to be civically engaged and their own service projects with #RedbirdImpact. Photos can be submitted by the end of June to be entered to win a #RedbirdImpact prize package. Need ideas to get started? Visit the Center for Civic Engagement’s website to find what opportunities are available virtually and in person.
Those interested in coordinating a service project for their area Redbirds in June can reach out to the Alumni Engagement Office for help with promotions and registrations.
