The campus community is invited to attend an open house reception celebrating the retirement of Sgt. Charlie Summers. The event will be held Wednesday, June 23 at the Alumni Center from 1-3 p.m. Please join in honoring Summers for his 27-plus years dedicated to the safety and security of the Illinois State University community.

After leaving the United States Marine Corps with an honorable discharge, Summers joined the Illinois State University Police Department (ISUPD) in December 1994 and very quickly demonstrated his dedication and care for the community. As he rose through the ranks, he oversaw the training and development of countless officers by serving as a Field Training Officer, an IPMBA bike instructor, and a firearms instructor overseeing annual state qualifications. These leadership positions, along with dozens of other certifications and professional memberships, ensure that his legacy will be felt in the department for years to come.

Summers retires as the senior sergeant of ISUPD and looks forward to spending more time with his daughter.
