Filmmaker David Osit and Musa Hadid, the mayor of the city of Ramallah in the central West Bank near Jerusalem, will take part in a Zoom Q and A at 9 a.m. September 8 to discuss the 2020 film Mayor.

The event, sponsored by Illinois State University’s Minor in Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies, is free and open to the public. All attendees are asked to register in advance here.

Osit’s Mayor, has been widely acclaimed internationally for its unadorned depiction of the challenges of governing a city without a state. The film can be viewed on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, or on the Film Movement website.

Along with producing and directing Mayor, American filmmaker Osit is the director of Thank You for Playing (2015) and Building Babel (2012), and produced the 2016 film No Man’s Land on the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon.

Support for the event is provided by the Harold K. Sage Fund and the Illinois State University Foundation, the Department of Geology, Geography, and the Environment, the Department of History, and the Department of Politics and Government.
