How can I apply for jobs from home? How can I connect with recruiters if I am unable to travel? How can I get help with my career questions?

These are just a few questions that Redbirds are asking during the pandemic. With virtual resources in demand, Hire-A-Redbird, Illinois State University’s online job posting board, not only answers those career questions, but can actively assist students and alumni with their career development and professional readiness.

Career advice

Redbirds needing assistance with exploring careers or needing advice on job search strategies can schedule a virtual appointment with their career advisors using Hire-A-Redbird. Career advisors can also provide assistance with drafting a career plan, applying to graduate or professional schools, and other career needs.

To connect with a career advisor, schedule an appointment using Hire-A-Redbird. You will be able to select your preferred appointment method: email, phone, or virtual call (Zoom). Once your request is received, your career advisor will send an email confirmation to you regarding your appointment request and if it has been accepted. If you select the video call option, you will receive an email containing a Zoom invitation with a link or a phone number to connect.

International opportunities

Hire-A-Redbird also provides international students and those seeking career opportunities abroad through GoinGlobal. Located within Hire-A-Redbird, GoinGlobal provides access to more than 16 million job and internship postings, a worldwide employer directory, multilingual search to find openings posted in one’s local language, career guides, H1B information, and more.

Internship assistance

Hire-A-Redbird also contains an experiential learning/internship module for students who are participating in internships and for the internship coordinators and faculty who oversee them.

The internship module allows students to

  • Search and apply for internships/professional practice experiences
  • Add internship/professional practice experiences to their academic profile whether taken “for credit” or “not for credit”
  • Track and submit their hours completed
  • List and track tasks and responsibilities completed during an internship
  • Evaluate their internship experience

The career resources and services that Career Services provides help Redbirds enhance their career development and readiness. In fact, during the 2020-21 academic year, over 6,745 students logged into Hire-A-Redbird.

“Hire-A-Redbird is just one of the many resources that the we provide to continue to meet the evolving needs of students and alumni and help them navigate their careers effectively,” said Quanisha Kumi-Darfour, Career Services associate director.
