Clint Smith has been selected as the recipient of the 2022 Herb Sanders Award for Outstanding Academic Advisement. The award recognizes advisors who demonstrate a caring attitude for undergraduate students, assertive in their contacts with students, and support campus-wide academic advisement.

Smith is an advisor in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. He joined Illinois State University in 2012 as an advisor in University College, where he honed his holistic style of advising. Smith transitioned from University College to the Department of Family & Consumer Sciences in 2017. He currently advises approximately 350 students across 15 different plans of study in six academic programs. He enjoys assisting students as they grow and continue to realize their potential, from their sophomore year through degree completion. His work with FCS students has gained him recognition from his advisees as an ISU Impact Award winner.

In 2015, Smith received the Outstanding New Undergraduate Advisor Award. During the same year, he was a member of the Human Library Team, which won the ISU Commitment to Diversity: Outstanding New Program Award.

Smith currently serves as the chairperson of the Academic Advising Council and is a member of the Professional Development & Training Committee. He is grateful for the strong sense of community among his fellow ISU academic advisors and attributes much of his growth and success to the many lessons he has learned from his peers.
