Illinois State promotes economic literacy with two events in February

Illinois State University is hosting two events in February in conjunction with its participation in the national Economic Literacy Project cohort.

Illinois State University is hosting two events in conjunction with its participation in the Economic Literacy Project cohort, sponsored by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities’ American Democracy Project (AASCU/ADP) and Up to Us.

These opportunities are designed to promote economic literacy throughout the Illinois State University community and emphasize the impacts fiscal policies have on federal, state, and local budgets and communities.

Illinois State University’s Economic Literacy Project cohort members include Dr. Madeline Trimble and Dr. Christopher Tamm, faculty in the College of Business, and Christine Bruckner, an assistant director in the Center for Civic Engagement.

National Debt Dialogue: How do we help future generations thrive?

On Tuesday, February 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. CST, Illinois State University will be partnering with AASCU/ADP and Up to Us to provide a unique opportunity for Illinois State students, faculty, and staff to talk with others from across the country about the fiscal policies and initiatives that may help future generations thrive. Participants in this Deliberative Dialogue will be in small Zoom breakout groups deliberating the following question: What should we do for future generations to thrive? This is a free event, but registration is required.

On Wednesday, February 23, Illinois Comptroller Susana A. Mendoza will visit campus to speak about her role as Illinois comptroller, the State of Illinois’ budget, and the importance of developing economic literacy. She will speak on campus from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Illinois State students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend in person at the Caterpillar Auditorium in the State Farm Hall of Business or virtually via this Zoom link. No registration is required.
