The theme for COM Week 2022 is “Be the Change, Connect Through Communication.”

Starting April 4 and lasting through April 8, the School of Communication will host its annual COM Week. The theme this year is “Be the Change, Connect Through Communication.” After a difficult two years of virtual events, this year COM Week will be in-person and virtual, with speakers coming from all over the country.

The vision for COM Week is to make connections between current students and alumni as well as highlight all the cool things a degree in communication can do for people. Participants can also expect to better understand the industries in which you want to work and how to get there and be successful.

This year’s COM Week will have 10 different Q&A-style panels, five keynote speakers, and a documentary film festival. Most of the speakers during COM Week are alumni or honored alumni, and they want to share with students how to be successful in the communication field, wherever it may take them.

The keynote speakers are Frank DiLeonardi ’80, M.S. ’81, Steve Burger ’77, Eric Hoss ’81, Scott Jordan, and Sandra Torres ’06. Each speaker is talking about a topic relevant to them and their career. DiLeonardi is speaking about conducting a successful job search. Burger is speaking about how to have a successful communication career and how to get there. Hoss is giving an interview session, and Jordan is covering “The Man Behind the Comics.” Torres is a bilingual reporter for Telemundo Chicago and will be covering “Discovering Diversity and Important Skills in News Broadcasting.”

The tradition of COM Week goes back many years and is one of the largest events on campus. For more information, visit the COM Week website. Information is also posted around Fell Hall.

If you are interested in joining the intern team next year to help create the next COM Week, applications will be released during COM Week, and interviews will be held at the end of the spring semester.
