Illinois State University Associate Provost Ani Yazedjian announced the appointment of Dr. Roopa Rawjee as executive director of the Office of International Engagement (OIE), effective July 1, 2022.  Rawjee currently serves as the assistant vice president in the Office of Global Services at Northeastern University.

Rawjee earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from the University of Bombay. She received a Master of Arts from California State University, Northridge and a Doctor of Education from California Lutheran University.

“Dr. Rawjee brings considerable experience in designing and supporting international student services at several institutions with additional background in partnership development and strategic planning,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Aondover Tarhule. “She will be a valuable addition to Illinois State’s leadership team.”

Yazedjian noted Rawjee is the right person to lead the reorganized Office of International Engagement. “We have a rich history and a strong foundation for internationalization efforts on campus,” she said. “Dr. Rawjee’s breadth of experience will help us launch this comprehensive framework for internationalization on campus and abroad.”

The new OIE will officially be launched on July 1 and will merge the Office of International Studies and Programs with the International Pathways unit. OIE will include a main office, International Pathways, International Admissions, International Student and Scholar Services, Study Abroad, Management Development International, Asia Initiatives, International House and Special Programs, Academic English, and Business and Financial Services. There will also be a tutoring center (Study Corner) for students enrolled in academic English or a pathway.
