“Dr. Godwyll brings a wealth of experience from having taught and led in several institutions across three continents” said Tarhule. “He has a demonstrated commitment to advancing strategic priorities, innovative program development, providing access and student success, advancing the University’s goals in supporting diverse populations, furthering inclusive excellence, supporting faculty excellence and shared governance, and promoting a learning-centered campus, as well as cultivating and sustaining K-16 collaborations and partnerships.”

In his current position, Godwyll serves as chief academic officer for the College of Education and Human Services providing leadership and support to faculty and staff. His work has supported the University’s vision and mission while promoting growth, innovation, and inclusivity at the college level.

“I am truly honored to serve as the next dean of the College of Education at Illinois State University,” said Godwyll. “Having grown up in humble settings in a developing country, I have experienced firsthand how a college education can become the great equalizer that levels the playing field presenting opportunities that are life-changing and transformational. I, therefore, feel invested in the goals of the University to promote its mission. “I look forward to working with faculty, staff, students, and the University administration to build on the legacy of those who have come before me”.

Godwyll received a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education (in special education) from University of Cape Coast, Ghana. In addition, he received a Doctor of Education from the University of Education in Heidelberg, Germany.
