It was a close battle down the stretch, but the Illinois State women’s golf team picked up the program’s first MVC Championship since the 2013 season with a one-stroke win over the field at the 2022 MVC Championships.

Junior Ali Schrock was named the MVC Golfer of the Year and placed second in the field, as head coach Breanne Hall was named the MVC Coach of the Year. Schrock, Kehler Koss, and Avalon Woodward were all named to the All-Conference squad.

The Redbirds finished the three-day tournament with a team total of 911 with rounds of 309, 295, and 307. Missouri State took second with a 912, with Drake (935), Bradley (945), Evansville (949), Indiana State (950), Southern Illinois (950), Loyola (957), Northern Iowa (970), and Valparaiso (1005) rounding out the 10 schools in the field.

Schrock took second with a final-round 77, finishing with a 226. Koss’ final-round 80 saw her finish with a 228, tied for fourth, while Emma Rouger placed in a tie for 10th place with a 231, including a final-round 80. Avalon Woodward’s final-round 73 pushed her to a 12th place finish and a final-score 232. Kira Wolf, who entered the second round as a substitute, shot a final-round 77 for the Redbirds.

The NCAA selection show will be on April 27, as the Redbirds will find out where they will be placed in the NCAA Regional.
