Recently, three Mennonite College of Nursing students, Tiffany Maravilla, Frank Motyka, and Jordyn Wasserman, were chosen for the ROTC Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP). The Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP) will provide them with approximately 140 clinical hours at three army hospitals.

Tiffany Maravilla will complete her rotation at Madigan Army Medical Center on Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington from July 10–August 6. From July 20–August 16, Frank Motyka will finish his rotation at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, Texas. Jordyn Wasserman will complete her rotation at Fort Campbell’s Blanchfield Army Community Hospital from July 15–August 11.

“The goal of the NSTP is to provide Army ROTC Nurse Cadets with clinical experience in a hospital setting while introducing them to the duties, roles, responsibilities, and expectations of an Army Nurse,” explains Lieutenant Colonel Kraig M. Kline from the Department of Military Science at ISU’s College of Applied Science and Technology.

“These Cadets will exercise leadership skills in a hospital environment by planning, organizing, decision-making, implementing, and being accountable for the outcome of nursing care. Nurse Cadets will collaborate with health care professionals on decisions related to patient care and management, as well as unit issues and strategies utilized in the provision of medical care to a select population,” says Lieutenant Colonel Kraig M. Kline.

Lieutenant Colonel Kraig M. Kline further mentioned that, “Cadets can be selected to complete NSTP at 17 Medical Treatment Facilities around the world, to include Germany, Hawaii, or Korea.”
