While historically known for its steel mills, movies including The Blues Brothers or tv shows such as Prison Break, the Joliet community is being refreshed and ISU alumni are contributing to the revitalization.
Hosted by local Redbirds, the evening will kick off with a special 90-minute tour of the Old Joliet Prison led by Greg Peerbolte ’06, executive director of the Joliet Area Historical Museum. The old prison closed in 2002 and was revitalized as a historical destination thanks to over 6,500 volunteer hours and $250,000 in donations.
After the tour, the group will head to Elder Brewing Co. owned by Redbirds Andrew ’13 and Melissa Polykandriotis ’12. The brewing company is known for its inviting atmosphere, a wide range of brews, and friendly staff. Local small bites and drinks will be provided before the tour before heading to the Elder Brewing Co. Tap Room to enjoy a special Redbird flight and dinner.
