Governor JB Pritzker’s office announced that Anthony Byrd ’99 of Swansea, Illinois, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of Illinois State University. Byrd’s term extends to January 20, 2025.
“I want to extend my congratulations to Mr. Byrd,” said Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Mary Ann Louderback. “I am thrilled to welcome him home to Illinois State and look forward to working with him on the Board of Trustees.”
Working in the U.S. Courts Pretrial and Probation Service Office, Byrd serves as a senior U.S. pretrial services officer and special offender specialist. He was recently appointed as the newest member of the three-person Police/Fire Commission for Village of Swansea, Illinois. Previously, Byrd served as assistant supervisor and watch supervisor at the St. Louis City Family Court, Juvenile Detention.
“The relationships created, and lessons learned have always endeared my heart to Illinois State University,” said Byrd. I am grateful to the Governor’s Office for the nomination, and the opportunity to serve this wonderful university.
A 1999 graduate of Illinois State University, Byrd earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He later earned a master’s degree in criminal justice administration from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri.
Byrd is a member of the American Probation and Parole Association, the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, and the Police/Fire Commissioner for Village of Swansea. He assists in coaching basketball, wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in his community.
President Terri Goss Kinzy noted Byrd will be a valuable addition to the Board. “Mr. Byrd’s love of the University and significant professional experiences are clear,” said Dr. Kinzy. “Our sincere thanks to Gov. Pritzker’s office for their work to support Illinois State University.”
Byrd’s appointment is subject to State Senate approval.
