Undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines are invited to submit proposals for the annual Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) Student Research Symposium.  

Organizers are seeking student presentations, panels, papers, and performance pieces for the symposium. Topics should be related to the study of women or gender, and the intersections with race, sexuality, class/caste, colonization, and (dis)ability. Students must have a faculty sponsor.  

The deadline for submissions is 4 p.m. March 31, 2023.  

The symposium will honor 26 years. The in-person event will be Thursday, April 27, in the Prairie Room at the Bone Student Center. Celebrated feminist scholar Dr. Kate Manne will serve as the keynote speaker with “He Said, She Listened: On Epistemic Entitlement, Mansplaining, and Gaslighting.” 

Proposals must include a cover sheet with:  

  • Title of paper/presentation  
  • Names and contact information of presenter(s) or panel members  
  • Name of faculty sponsor and (if relevant) course number  
  • A description of the presentation or a copy of the paper  

Proposals can be emailed to wgstudies@ilstu.edu, or dropped off at the WGSS office in Rachel Cooper Hall, room 237.
