Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts invites all Illinois State University alumni to see a performance of Hansel and Gretel and Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express during the months of March and April.

Hansel and Gretel

Composed by Engelbert Humperdinck with lyrical translation by Cori Ellison, Hansel and Gretel is directed by Instructional Assistant Professor of Music Theatre and alum Matthew Vala.

Engelbert Humperdinck’s delightful and family-friendly opera is based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale and is a perennial favorite enjoyed by audiences both young and old throughout the world. Ellison’s spirited English singing translation of the opera now offers companies a fresh take on this classic work. The Hansel and Gretel performances are March 2-4 at 7:30 p.m. and March 5 at 2 p.m. in the Center for the Performing Arts Theatre.

Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express

Adapted by Ken Ludwig, Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express is directed by Assistant Professor and alum John Tovar.

Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for the time of the year, but by the morning it is one passenger fewer. An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed eight times, his door locked from the inside. Isolated and with a killer in their midst, the passengers rely on detective Hercule Poirot to identify the murderer–in case he or she decides to strike again. Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express performances are April 14-15, 19-22 at 7:30 p.m. and April 16 at 2 p.m.
