Campus and community members are invited to the Illinois State University Earth Day Breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Thursday, April 20, in the Prairie Room at the Bone Student Center. The breakfast will feature keynote speaker Nasreen Sheikh, a global human rights advocate dedicated to ending modern day slavery.

The breakfast will include local foods, vegan options, and fair trade coffee and teas. Ticket prices are $10 for students and $25 for non-students and can be purchased at www.sustainability.illinoisstate.edu. Ticket sales end April 13, or until sold out.

A survivor of modern-day slavery within the textile industry, Sheikh now shares her story internationally to speak toward improving labor rights, ending forced marriages, and showcasing the devastating effects of the fashion industry on the environment and the people behind our products.

Sheikh’s goal is to end modern-day slavery by building a new society where every person is free to be a leader, changemaker, and problem solver. Nasreen’s moving story inspires action towards a more sustainable world.

The Earth Day Breakfast is sponsored by the Illinois State Office of Sustainability.
