Scholarship recipient Erin Andrea is a human development and family science major from Oswego. She is set to graduate in May 2024.
Andrea received the Family Consumer Science Transfer Scholarship in fall 2023 and spring 2023. She is also a recipient of the John A., Mabel E. and Jacqueline Q. Karch Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences. She has also received the CAST Travel Grant, the FCS Travel Grant, the SoTL Travel Grant, and the OSR’s Pinion Grant.
A highlight of Andrea’s college career involves having the opportunity to work and represent the department of family and consumer sciences as a student ambassador. Andrea also shared she has had the opportunity to work with her professors on a weekly basis completing independent studies and research projects. Finally, Andrea shared, “Getting to meet my amazing group of peers through both my department and work cohort has been also a highlight of my time at ISU.”
Currently, Andrea is preparing to travel to Orlando to present at the National Council on Family Relations in November. The presentations involve, “Parents and their young children discussing different types of families” with Dr. Chang Su-Rusell and “I’m Not Good at Writing: The one pager assignment as an alternative to writing papers.”
In addition to being in the process of applying for graduate school to pursue her master’s in human development and family science, Andrea is also a student worker at the Student Accounts office on campus. She is also a part of the award winning 103.3 WZND Fuzed Radio student station on campus, where she serves as a DJ producer and hosts the Fuzed Countdown.
A book she would recommend for everyone to read is “The Midnight Library” by Matt Haig. This is one of her favorite books, and it is both meaningful and inspirational. She believes this is the perfect book for all college-aged students.
Finally, Andrea would like to personally thank all of the donors who have made her education dreams a possibility. “As a transfer student, the donors made my academic journey easier, and made Illinois State my number one selection for college,” said Andrea.
