The safety and well-being of students is a top priority of Illinois State University. To help ensure all Illinois State University students have important foundational knowledge about interpersonal violence and in response to federal requirements, all students are required to receive Consent & Respect online Title IX training each year that they are enrolled at the University.
Consent & Respect is an online course designed to increase awareness and understanding of sexual violence, its impact on college students, and the importance of consent and respect in sexual situations. The course covers factors that contribute to violence, strategies to reduce vulnerability, and critical information about what to do if you or someone you know has experienced unwanted sexual contact. Consent & Respect also ensures all students have a basic understanding of relevant terms, laws, and the Student Code of Conduct.
Illinois State University has a long tradition of being committed to creating an inclusive environment where students feel safe and the well-being of the entire campus community is supported at all levels. It is important that all students and employees are aware of the issues surrounding sexual victimization, healthy relationships, violence prevention, and safety strategies. This course also helps make sure that students are aware of campus and community resources available. Consent & Respect contributes to making Illinois State an even more caring community where individuals can make the most of where they live, learn, work, and play.
Consent & Respect is to be completed every fall that a student is enrolled in classes at the University. Course content changes annually based on student feedback as well as to reflect changes to relevant laws and current affairs. In addition, repeating the course annually helps students strengthen skills to support others and help work towards culture change necessary to end sexual violence.
The online course will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Students will receive an email with information about how to complete the course in their Illinois State email in early October. First year students complete Consent & Respect in conjunction with Alcohol Wise required training.
