April 27 will be busy day for Redbird Athletics, with several events scheduled for fans to take part in.
The day’s activities will begin with the fifth annual Kids Football Fest, which will take place on the playing field at Hancock Stadium, weather permitting.
The event is open to all Reggie’s Kids Club members ages 12 and under with adult supervision. Those who aren’t members of Reggie’s Kids Club can sign up for the free program at GoRedbirds.com. Registration opens at 9:45 a.m., with the program starting at 10:30 a.m. promptly, running until noon. Early registration is encouraged but not required.
Head football coach Brock Spack will be in attendance to talk with all the participants and offer some words of advice on the importance of staying active and playing sports. Activities include a catching station with the Redbird quarterbacks, a field goal station with the Redbird kickers, throwing accuracy, tackling stations and an obstacle course. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to dress up like a Redbird football player and get their picture taken with the Illinois State cheerleaders.
From 11 a.m. to noon, there will also be an open house for all fans interested in learning more about the Hancock Stadium renovation prior to the game. That event will be located on the berm in the north end zone while the Kids Football Fest is going on.
Fans can then attend the Redbird Barbecue, which will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on the grass at the north end of Hancock Stadium. For $5, a lunch of a hot dog or hamburger (a vegetarian option will also be available on request), side dish, chips, cookie and a drink will be served prior to the start of the annual Red-White Scrimmage beginning at 1 p.m.
