Many of Illinois State University’s faculty and staff members were recognized by the Central States Communication Association (CSCA) for their achievements and awards. The CSCA is a respected academic organization that includes college professors, students, and K-12 educators. The organization has grown to become the largest regional communication association in the United States and the fourth largest academic communication association in the world.

Those recognized for the Top Panel Award included Dr. Lance Lippert in the Instructional Resources Interest Group, Dr. Lindsey Thomas in the Interpersonal and Family Communication Interest Group, as well as Dr. Joel Reed, Dr. Fernando Severino, Dr. Steve Rahko, and Dr. Byron Craig in the Political Communication Interest Group. Also recognized were Reilly Card and Millicent Elewosi. Reed was also recognized for the Top Paper Award. 

Those recognized for the Top Student Paper Award included Madison Wilson, Ertemisa Godinez, and Kaylin Lane in the Communication & Technology Interest Group, as well as Cem Ismail Addemir in the Intercultural Communication Interest Group, and Benjamin Brew Sam-Paintsil in the Strategic & Applied Communication Interest Group. 

Recognized with the Top Student Paper Award, Top Debut Paper Award, and Top Four Paper Award was Tristin Evans in the Health Communication Interest Group. 

Recognized for the Top Inclusive Scholarship Paper Award was Caroline King in the Rhetorical Theory & Criticism Interest Group. 

Recognized for the Top Five Paper Award was Mary Katreeb in the Women’s Caucus. 

Cem Ismail Addemi also received the Cooper Award (M.A.) from CSCA, for his excellent master’s thesis and teaching during his graduate program. 

The Central States Communication Association held its 92nd annual convention in St. Louis, March 29 through April 2, titled “Intersections, Transitions & Silenced Voices.” The convention is an educational opportunity to highlight work and thought processes of communication scholars. Many of the faculty and students mentioned will be in attendance to present their work, alongside other fellow Redbird students and staff.
