Former private investigator turned best-selling author Steven Gore will give a talk and participate is a post-screening discussion of the movie Chinatown on the campus of Illinois State University.
The author of the gritty Harlan Donnally and Graham Gage novels, Gore will present “Realism Revisited: Moral Betrayal in Hardboiled Crime Fiction,” at noon Tuesday, April 12, in Stevenson Hall, room 401. He will examine the moral implications of the hardboiled genre, with an eye toward Raymond Chandler’s The Big Sleep and the film Chinatown.
Gore will also attend a screening and discussion of the move Chinatown as part of Professor William Thomas McBride’s film noir seminar at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, in Stevenson Hall, room 101.
Both events are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
Gore spent decades investigating murder, fraud, organized crime, corruption, and the trafficking of drug, sex, and arms throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Publishers Weekly calls Gore a “masterful” writer. He has been featured on 60 Minutes and honored for investigative excellence.
