For the past decade, between 30-40 students in Professor James Pancrazio’s section of Spanish 244 have participated in the all-day field experience in Chicago’s Little Village, during which they provide simultaneous interpretation for parent-teacher conferences on report-card pickup day.  After an orientation, students meet with parents and students to discuss the academic performance in that quarter.

This field experience is taught in conjunction with the unit on the growing Latino population in the United States. It also brings students to an area of Illinois that they may not be familiar with, helping them discover the cultural richness of the state’s diversity.
