Dr. Howell (Ph.D. in Francophone Studies at the University of Iowa, 2010) specializes in alternate histories of the French Empire recounted by artists, writers, and filmmakers who live and work in the Francophone World, especially in North and West Africa, the Caribbean, and Vietnam. She has traveled extensively throughout Francophone Europe (France, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Monaco), Africa (Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, Burkina Faso), and the Caribbean (Martinique and Guadeloupe). She shares her experiences with students so that they too will become responsible world travelers and, ultimately, world citizens. Prof. Howell looks forward each year to mentoring students committed to lifelong learning, sustainability, social justice, and global citizenship.
