REPORTED OFFENSE:

Dear Students,

I am writing to alert you that Illinois State University Police are investigating a handwritten note found in a Schroeder Hall bathroom threatening that a bomb would be placed in Schroeder. We must take these communications seriously.

After receiving the communication, University police immediately contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies. While we have not cancelled classes at Schroeder Hall, we are taking multiple steps to ensure the safety of all students, faculty and staff members who use the building.

Police and security teams using specially trained dogs will be making periodic sweeps of the building for the next several days. For the next few days, access to Schroeder Hall will be limited to two entrances; the Quad-side entrance at Schroeder Plaza at the southeast corner of Schroeder and the University Street entrance on the northwest side of the building.

In addition, for the next few days, police and security personnel will be checking backpacks, briefcases, bags and large purses. While I understand this will cause some disruption, I hope you will understand that this is an appropriate security measure. You can help by not bringing these items to Schroeder Hall for the next few days unless absolutely necessary.

The safety of our students, faculty and staff is our first priority. This incident serves as a reminder that we should be mindful of our environment and security. If you observe unattended bags or backpacks or other suspicious situations, please contactUniversity Police at (309) 438-8631immediately
