We’d like to introduce ourselves.

Welcome to Let’s Talk, Illinois State University’s electronic newsletter designed specifically for parents of college-bound students. I hope this serves as a helpful resource as your family determines your next steps in the college selection process.

This month’s topic is visiting colleges, and I don’t believe there is anything more important or influential in any student’s search. From time of year to type of visit, there is much to consider when visiting the different schools on your list.

When you’re ready to hit the road, I welcome you to come see us at Illinois State. Experience the energy of a packed house at an Open House, or arrange for your own Daily Campus Visit when convenient for you and your family. Regardless, I hope this article helps make your college search just a little bit easier and more enjoyable. And if you ever have questions, let’s talk!

There are countless ways a visit to campus, like the Quad at Illinois State, shown here, can help refine your college search.

Helping your child choose a college is a critical undertaking, but how do you cut through all the noise to figure out where your student will be safe, supported, and successful?

The only way to get a true sense of how a campus feels is to visit. This aerial view of the Quad at Illinois State is nice, but stepping foot into the middle of it is better.

A step-by-step guide to help you and your student get the most out of a college visit.

See a group of students while taking a campus visit? Stop them and ask them questions. Current students are a great source of unfiltered information.

Current students share their stories of how a visit helped them decide to become Redbirds, and they offer advice on how your family can get the most out of a stop on campus.
