Hello Student Affairs Alumni and Friends

With the end of 2017 quickly approaching, I cannot help but be thankful for all of our alumni and friends and for the great year we have had in the Division of Student Affairs! I was reminded of the wonderful support we have when seeing you all at our annual Student Affairs Alumni and Friends Homecoming Tailgate and at numerous Homecoming festivities. It was great to hear your Redbird stories and see your passion for Illinois State and the Division of Student Affairs! We hope you take a moment to read some of our Redbird stories in this newsletter and see what is happening on campus.

This fall kicked off an exciting time for Illinois State University as we officially launched our University Campaign, Redbirds Rising. We have an ambitious goal of $150 million to support this great University we all love. Student Affairs is excited to do their part to reach that goal, and I hope you learn more about our efforts in our Honoring the Student Experience in Redbirds Rising article.

The excitement is not over as we approach a very special Tuesday at Illinois State University on November 28. (Can you guess what this exciting day day is?) Be sure to mark your calendar to check out our social media accounts and see just how exciting this day will be. I promise it will be a day full of surprises and fun as we spread Redbird Pride across the country!

Wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season!

The Division of Student Affairs offers numerous opportunities for students to get involved at Illinois State. Many students, like senior Blair Fernandez, choose to participate across many different areas of the division.

After 30 years of service to the Division of Student Affairs, Rick Lewis retired from Illinois State in 2016, but his impact on students and involvement with the University continues.

In the comprehensive campaign, Redbirds Rising, Student Affairs is capitalizing its work to ensure students continue to feel they have access to excellent leadership experiences that prepare them for a life of meaning after college, as well as get the most of their time as a student.

The Division of Student Affairs is excited to recognize five outstanding young alumni as the recipients of the 2017 Redbird Proud Young Alumni Award.

The Student Affairs Alumni and Friends Newsletter is an opportunity for both our alumni and supporters to keep up-to-date on news within the Division of Student Affairs. Student Affairs alumni are unique and not easily defined. While they didn’t technically graduate from the Division of Student Affairs, they did have an impactful experience in one or more of the twelve departments of the Division as a student. From being a RA, to Alternative Breaks participants, to campus dining staff, to sports club members, they are alumni of Student Affairs and our supporters help these programs continue to thrive. So let’s connect! Share your stories, keep in touch, and remember you are all part of the Student Affairs family.
