The Education Commission of the States published a policy brief that looks at effective educator preparation, including course work and clinical experience. The brief considers traditional and alternative teacher preparation programs, highlighting the role of clinical experience in relation to teacher retention and diversified work environments. The brief includes a comparison of retention and recruitment policies in the 50 states.

The Education Commission of the States released a special report that summarizes the perception of postsecondary and training in rural areas. The analysis considers the enhancement and support of rural residents. A brief article highlighting the report and sharing resources can be found here.

 

NEW BLOG: Exploring the Growing Impact of Career Pathways

Dr. Debra Bragg, an expert panelist who co-authored the recent What Works Clearinghouse Designing and Delivering Career Pathways at Community Colleges practice guide recently wrote a blog entitled Exploring the Growing Impact of Career Pathways. In this blog, Dr. Bragg explores the evidence underlying the five recommendations in the guide and provides commentary on the importance of investing in research on programs that help prepare students for quality jobs that provide economic and career advancement opportunities over their lifetime.

During the 2018-2019 school year, Providence Public School District in Rhode Island implemented supports to reduce chronic absenteeism.  A study of the implemented supports was conducted to determine the relationships between student attendance data and tools to positively impact chronic absenteeism.
