The Illinois State University Board of Trustees named Dr. Aondover Tarhule as the University’s 21st president on March 18, 2024. Trustees also approved a four-year contract for Tarhule that will expire March 17, 2028.
Retired Ambassador Geeta Pasi, the inaugural Donald F. McHenry Visiting Professor in Diplomacy and International Affairs, opened her November 13 lecture, “Representing America Abroad: Telling our story, advancing American interests, and serving Americans,” with a vivid description about her work as the head of the Afghanistan Desk at the State Department on September 11, 2001.
In February, I was honored to be appointed as Illinois State University’s interim president.
As I embark on my second year as Illinois State University president, I can’t help but consider all that has changed and all we have accomplished together over the past year.
Illinois State University President Terri Goss Kinzy is serving as the 2022–2023 chair of the Missouri Valley Football Conference Presidents Council, and Illinois State Director of Athletics Kyle Brennan is serving as the 2022–2023 Missouri Valley Conference chair for the Directors of Athletics.
Associate Professor Kathryn Wehrmann from Illinois State University’s School of Social Work will lead the National Association of Social Workers.
Illinois State’s President Timothy Flanagan believes diversity is one of the cornerstones of a successful campus. Flanagan, who joined the University in August, said he has long been a proponent of the empowerment that comes with embracing diversity. “One of the critical characteristics of a great university is recognizing that diversity strengthens us,” he said.
The Illinois State Board of Trustees voted to hire Flanagan, currently president of Framingham State University in Massachusetts, after an extensive national search.
