An invitation to the 2024 spring Dean’s Address and Awards Ceremony

The east entrances to the Bone Student Center have a whole new look.

All members of the University and Bloomington-Normal communities are invited to attend the spring 2024 College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Address and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. in the Old Main Room of the Bone Student Center. A reception will follow.

The Department of Politics and Government is hosting a retirement reception honoring Dr. T.Y. Wang, chair and professor for the department, from 3:30-6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, in the Founders Suite inside Bone Student Center.

Alum teams with college basketball legend Dick Vitale and his ‘young heroes’ to take on pediatric cancer with new book

Meeting your heroes can be a tricky thing. Letdowns are common, and disappointment lurks. For Scott Gleeson ’11, basketball icon Dick Vitale has exceeded every expectation, so much so that the two men—who are nearly 50 years apart in age—are friends. With the release last month of Vitale’s new book, Until My Last Breath: Fighting Cancer With My Young Heroes, co-written by Gleeson, they are now collaborators. 

Languages, Literatures, and Cultures hosts panel on the value of languages for your career

“Why Study Languages and How It Can Benefit Your Career”, organized by Dr. Elke Segelcke, professor of German, was held Wednesday evening. Each of the four panelists (all professors at Illinois State University) provided a background of the languages that they learned growing up and the reason(s) they took them, followed by how this prepared them for their future.
