(March 8, 2006) Thomas Metcalf Middle School has been ranked as number 45 on a new Chicago Sun-Times list of the highest-scoring middle-grade programs in Illinois. The Chicago Sun-Times recently identified its list of the Top 50 Elementary Schools and The Top 50 Middle Schools in Illinois by analyzing the Illinois Standards Achievement Test scores of every public school student in the state. Rankings are based on average scores on 2006 state reading and math test, not the percent passing or gains. Metcalf is the only area school to make either list.
Superintendent Dr. Robert Dean stated, “Athough I’m always cautious about using any single test to evaluate a school, the faculty and staff at Metcalf deserve credit for achieving solid test results while continuing to offer a balanced program that includes the arts, foreign language, physical education, and technology.”
