Television anchor Eric Shangraw ’87 will be the emcee, and Barbara Caldwell ’87, M.S. ’80 and Ed.D. ’91 will be the luncheon speaker. Caldwell is an associate professor of art and design in the College of Design at Iowa State University. She has taught art education courses and supervised graduate research and student teaching since 1996, including serving on over 70 graduate committees. Caldwell is co-director of the New Art Basics curriculum development project, a nationally recognized university-community partnership that serves art educators throughout Iowa and the United States.
Caldwell has been an active National Art Education Association (NAEA) member, NAEA Student Chapter adviser and member of the Art Educators of Iowa (AEI) board of directors. Among her many honors, Caldwell has been Iowa Art Educator of the Year, Iowa Higher Education Educator of the Year and NAEA Western Region Art Educator of the Year. She received the Kathy Connors Award from the Women’s Caucus of the NAEA, the NAEA Distinguished Service Within the Profession Award, the AEI Distinguished Service Within the Profession Award, the Alumni Hall of Fame Award from Illinois State’s College of Education and the Raymond G. and Lula G. Polster Teaching Award from Iowa State’s College of Design.
Caldwell earned a bachelor’s degree from Illinois Wesleyan University, and a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate from Illinois State. She was an arts and humanities instructor at the College of DuPage and an art education instructor at Illinois State University.
