Jean and Darwin Hany

The Homecoming 2007 Alumni King and Queen are Darwin and Jean (Lindberg) Hany of Hot Springs Village, Ark.  Not only did Jean and Darwin receive their degrees from Illinois State, Darwin ’53 in elementary education and Jean ’54 in mathematics, all four of their children also graduated from Illinois State.  Darryl graduated in 1978, Nancy in 1979, Bruce in 1981 and Russell in 1990 and 1996.

Darwin and Jean met at Illinois State when they participated in the Gamma Phi Circus for all four years of their time at the University.  Darwin was president of the Gamma Phi Circus Executive Board in 1952 and 1953 while Jean was secretary in 1953 and 1954.  Darwin also served as class president at ISNU.

After graduation, Darwin spent four years in the Navy and 39 years at State Farm Insurance.  Jean spent her time raising their four children and working part-time at H & R Block as well as serving on the Alumni Board of Directors.  They were longtime basketball season ticket holders while living in Illinois.  After retiring, the family moved to Hot Springs Village, where they do volunteer work in between rounds of golf.
