Alumni and friends are invited to contribute to a memorial scholarship being formed in honor of Erin McEldowney, a 2006 Mennonite alumna who passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 2. McEldowney had been employed as a medical-surgical nurse at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.
Classmates Jessica Bimm and Katie Goding are leading the effort to establish the memorial scholarship. “Erin McEldowney was a dedicated nurse at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn,” Bimm said. “As a leader on her unit, Erin demonstrated empathy, respect and kindness to those she cared for. Mennonite College of Nursing gave Erin the confidence and knowledge to be a great nurse.”
“Working with Erin was a joy,” said one of McEldowney’s Mennonite instructors, Mary Cranston. “She was a person who truly did live life to the fullest and cared deeply for others. Erin threw herself into whatever she chose to take on. She was creative, fun, loving and determined to succeed.”
Those who wish to contribute to the scholarship may do so by clicking on Giving and entering “Erin McEldowney Memorial Scholarship” in the comment section, or by contacting Mennonite Development Director Jennifer Ward by e-mail at Ward or by phone at (309) 438-7178.
