Professional Development Luncheon
Effective Networking and Job Search Practices in Today’s Business Environment
The Illinois State University Chicago Young Alumni Network is hosting a professional development luncheon and seminar on Thursday, August 12 on effective networking and job search practices in today’s business environment. The presentation will be co-hosted by Joy Maguire-Dooley, M.S., CADC and Larry Garcia ’83.
Joy Maguire-Dooley’s expertise in job search and career transition has been tapped by USA TODAY, the Chicago Tribune and Chicago’s NBC NEWS. She is co-host of JOB TALK, a weekly radio show and co-author of the career transition book, A TASTE FOR WORK. Joy is currently the Director of Youth and Family Services for Lisle Township. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Community Career Center in Naperville and facilitates two weekly job clubs there. Joy co hosts WOW, a monthly women’s group at IIT in Wheaton. As an educator and therapist, Joy is frequently called upon to give presentations related to family and job transition topics.
Larry Garcia ‘83 is a business administration graduate of Illinois State University. While on campus he was active in SAM – Society for the Advancement of Management. He has held positions in Outside Sales and Account Management for small family owned businesses as well as global corporations such as Shell Oil, Ryder Transportation, and Enterprise Fleet Management. Larry, an Account Manager for Standard Industrial & Automotive Equipment in Hanover Park, will share effective strategies for coping with layoffs, professional networking, reshaping and jump starting your career.
A counselor from the Illinois State Career Center will be present to answer questions and provide résumé feedback following the presentation.
