The American Bar Association (ABA) has granted approval to the University’s Legal Studies Program. The ABA endorsement enhances the profile of the Legal Studies Program at the regional and national level, and makes graduates more competitive in an increasingly tough job market.
“This would not have been possible without the dedication and tireless effort of Legal Studies Program Director Tom McClure. He deserves special thanks,” Politics and Government Department Chair Ali Riaz said, calling the achievement a milestone for the department.
The Legal Studies Program began in 1975, with the ABA approval effort initiated in 2008. A three-member ABA evaluating team visited the campus in January of this year.
The University offers the program as a minor, a certificate with a bachelor’s degree, a certificate without a bachelor’s degree, and an interdisciplinary studies major. About 50 students participate in the program each year.
