The Illinois State University student chapter of AIS has been recognized for its professional development efforts.
The Illinois State University student chapter of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) has been recognized for its professional development efforts and was honored at the International Conference on Information Systems in Saint Louis in December. AIS is the premier global organization for information systems professionals. Since including collegiate chapters in 2008 the group now includes more than 3000 student members world-wide. Rosie Hauck and Matt Nelson serve as faculty sponsors for the group which is a charter student chapter of AIS.
During the past year the chapter arranged tours through corporate IT departments and IT research centers including the State Farm User Interface Lab. Chad Parker, CEO and founder of Cybernautics, as well as other technology thought-leaders, have spoken in business information systems classes and chapter meetings. Chapter members were also involved in researching and presenting internet surfing safety and security tips through community outreach programs such the I-Safety Task Force of McLean County.
“Our AIS student chapter provides strong ties to industry partners so members can share best practices and experiences, learn about job opportunities and career planning, coordinate membership drives and fundraising events and benefit from national conferences,” explained faculty sponsor, Matt Nelson.
“The students and co-faculty advisors Matt Nelson and Rosie Hauck have worked very hard to bring quality programming to chapter meetings. This significant recognition will help raise the awareness of the Business Information Systems program at Illinois State University,” said Department of Accounting Chairperson, Gerry McKean.
