Experienced staffer honored to lead the unit through the transition
Larry Lyons ’86 has been named the interim director of Athletics at Illinois State University following the resignation of Sheahon Zenger, who accepted a similar position at Kansas earlier this year.
Lyons, who is in his 24th year at Illinois State, had been serving as executive associate director in Athletics. In addition to business operations, his duties have included facility operations and the Weibring Golf Club, while supervising athletic training, athletic equipment, and strength and conditioning. He also provides the administrative leadership for men’s and women’s golf and baseball, while also working with men’s basketball and football.
In 2008 Lyons managed the conceptual, design, and construction stages of the Illinois State Baseball Stadium at Duffy Bass Field. He was also instrumental in the department-wide contract with Nike. Lyons also served as the Athletics department’s liaison to the University for human resources, administrative and fee-related projects. He has been the campus representative on the Illinois State Foundation Board of Directors.
Lyons will continue to oversee the business operations while serving as the interim director, during which time a national search will be conducted.
