Illinois Teacher of the Year Annice Brave, NBCT, nominated for national award. Annice Brave, an English and journalism teacher at Alton High School was named one of four finalists for Na-tional Teacher of the Year. Brave was chosen for 2011 Illinois Teacher of the Year in October, and was the first teacher in Alton Community Unit District 11 to earn National Board Certification. “I am honored and humbled to be named among these four finalists for this prestig-ious award,” Brave said. “Being named Teacher of the Year in Illinois has already provided an extraordinary opportunity to share the stories of educators and stu-dents.”
As Illinois Teacher of the Year, she was automatically in the running for National Teacher of the Year. A panel of educators, representing the 14 largest national edu-cation organizations, chose the finalists and will select the national honoree. Ac-cording to The Illinois Board of Education, it has been more than 40 years since a teacher from Illinois has been chosen for this honor. Illinois NBCTs are excited for Annice Brave and wish her the best.
