Former department chair and long-time faculty member Sol Shulman passed away in December 2010. Shulman held positions with Illinois State from 1969 to 1992 when he retired. Following retirement, Shulman assumed a major role in the design and construction of Illinois State’s Science Laboratory Building. Shulman donated the proceeds from his work on the building to the Chemistry Department, establishing the Sol Shulman Endowed Scholarship Fund. He continued to donate to the fund, and today the Shulman Scholarship supports several chemistry majors. Shulman asked that memorials be contributed to the Sol Shulman Scholarship fund through the Illinois State University Foundation. The sum of gifts up to $25,000 that are received through February 28 will be matched by a generous donor.
If you wish to make contributions to the Sol Shulman Scholarship you may do so online at Advancement.IllinoisState.edu/SolShulman or by mailing a gift form along with your contribution to:

What a great man who truely exemplified what it means to be an educator. I owe a great deal of my career to Sol’s ability to inspire.
I well remember Dr Shulman from my first Chem class in 1979. A good man, and I am sorry to hear that he has passed.
Dr. Shulman is one of the top five people that helped form the person I am today. Both my husband and I were his students and later he was our dear friend. We miss him terribly. He has a history so rich before he ever came to ISU and every student should know it and understand who he was as a person. Your life will be better. We will happily be giving to the fund on an annual basis.
I am saddened to hear of Dr. Shulman’s passing. I have very fond memories of him as my chemistry professor. He taught me a lot of things about life…that I didn’t realize until I got older. Thank you Dr. Shulman, I am a better person for having known you!
