Organization Objective/Purpose:
Customer and Account Technology is part of the Client Trading & Solutions organization within Schwab Technology Services.  We are primarily responsible for maintaining and supporting cross-enterprise customer and account data, business rules, and interfaces to the downstream consumers of this information.

Brief Description of Role:
The CAT mainframe team is looking for an entry-level software development resource to work on our newly funded projects.  This role will be responsible for the following:
– understanding cross-enterprise customer and account information and its business uses
– understanding the overall technology landscape to understand where this data fits into the big picture
– following our local technical governance and development process to ensure the changes are created with the highest quality
– reviewing requirements and translating into a technical design
– engineering a solution in the COBOL programming language
– testing the result at a unit and system level
– participating in peer code reviews
– supporting our QA and UAT testing activities after turning over the code
– preparing implementation plans and install tickets
– creating support documentation for their installed software

This role will also participate in our production support process after building up the requisite knowledge.

Technical/FunctionalQualifications:
The job requires a mix of functional and technical skills.  Since this is an entry level position we are flexible on the technical skills and will train the right person for the job.

Functional skills required – eagerness to learn business and technology, organized, team oriented, problem solving and analysis, and partnership with business, development and QA groups to achieve a common goal of delivering quality software.  Strong oral and verbal communication skills are required.  Knowledge of the brokerage business a definite plus.

Technical requirements – 1-2 years experienced with a structured programming language (COBOL, java, C#, etc) Similar experience with tools used to develop and test software (source code management, testing, deployment, etc).
