Bill Gugerty, an Illinois State University Honors alumnus with his B.S./MPA and CPA from Aurora worked in his field for two years before moving to a nonprofit organization, serving on its Board of Directors as treasurer. Gugerty will travel to Moldova, where he will perform case study and comparative research of Moldovan microfinance institutions. He is currently in a master’s program in international relations at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. While at Illinois State, Gugerty completed a study abroad in Germany and a Spanish language study in Spain.
The Fulbright Program was established in 1946 under legislation introduced by the former Senator J. William Fulbright. The program is sponsored by the U. S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Approximately 294,000 “Fulbrighters,” 111,000 from the United States and 183,000 from other countries, have participated in the program since its inception more than 60 years ago. The Fulbright Program awards approximately 7,500 new grants each year and currently operates in more than 155 countries.
