Parents and siblings who made the trek to Illinois State University for Family Weekend had plenty to tweet about.
A double-overtime football win over Eastern Illinois was just one highlight on a packed Family Weekend schedule, coordinated by the Student Community Outreach Office of the Dean of Students Office.
Here’s a recap of what students and their families were talking about all weekend. For updates on 2013’s Family Weekend, keep your eyes on the Family Weekend website.
Went to Alicia’s scholarship program, we were very proud parents! Love family weekend at Illinois state! We are very proud of you Alicia!
Hopefully we pronounced her beautiful name correctly on stage! I hope that you had an opportunity to read about the touching story of Mrs. Vivette Rifkin, the woman for whom Alicia’s scholarship was named. Like you, she also had an amazing daughter; Her daughter happened to be blind. Though Mrs. Rifkin did not have any formal education after the age of 16, she knew the joys of reading and wanted to pass that along to her daughter. So, she began taping the books she read and eventually founded Educational Tape Recording for the Blind (ETRB) in Chicago. She led ETRB for over 40 years–dedicated her life to helping individuals with low vision and blindness–and in 1999 was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
