The Student Fitness Center and McCormick Hall at Illinois State University will be honored with a citation in the upcoming issue of American School and University Magazine.
The facility has been chosen for an honor in the magazine’s 2012 Architectural Portfolio under the category of Specialized Facility. The jury judging the Center noted “the building’s transparency allows for safety and security of students: a place to ‘see and be seen.’”
The award, which will appear in the November issue of the magazine, will recognize the design by architects Dewberry and RDG Planning and Design.
The magazine serves the nation’s K-12 and higher-education administrators responsible for the planning, design, construction, retrofit, operations, maintenance and management of education facilities.
The facility, which officially opened in 2011, has seen more than 900,000 visits. This year, the building was also named one of the nine recipients of the 2012 Outstanding Sports Facilities by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association and won an Innovative Architecture & Design Award from Rec Management Magazine.
