One of Illinois State University graduate student Treshani Perera’s main interests in piano pedagogy is beginning and intermediate level repertoire. Receiving a Friends of the Arts grant has allowed her to attend two professional conferences and give a lecture-recital on a set of piano pieces written for beginning pianists. Dmitri Kabalevsky’s composition “24 Pieces for Children, Op. 39” was the focus of her research, which she hopes to share with local piano teachers.
Her lecture-recital was presented at Indiana State University for the Indiana Music Teachers Association’s annual conference and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for the Illinois Music Teachers Association’s annual conference.
Perera is a second-year collaborative piano who is set to graduate in May 2013.
