Dietetic interns in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences have received a $500 grant to help lead the garden project at Calvary United Methodist Church. Illinois State’s dietetic internship program has a leadership and project management focus, and this garden project fits right in.
“It will provide students with a variety of learning experiences,” said Julie Schumacher, M.S. ’05, Ed.D. ’09, dietetic internship director and assistant professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. “They will learn gardening techniques, lead cooking demonstrations, and donate the excess produce to community food banks.”
