Beta Alpha Psi is a national scholastic honors fraternity for accounting, financial, and information systems professionals. The following is a question-and-answer session with Beta Alpha Psi Vice President Zak Shah.

Q: What is the focus of Beta Alpha Psi?

A: The primary objective of Beta Alpha Psi is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field. This includes promoting the study and practice of accounting, finance and information systems; providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals; and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility. The majority of our members are accounting and business information systems (BIS) students.

Q: What leadership opportunities does Beta Alpha Psi provide?

A: Beta Alpha Psi has an executive board currently made up of positions including president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and events coordinator. Showing initiative and starting your own position or sharing your possible event ideas are encouraged as well.

Q: What other opportunities and benefits are there of being a member of Beta Alpha Psi?

A: As an accounting, finance, or business information systems major you get the added benefit of being recognized as a part of a respected and well known honors organization. We have many firms and companies that come to speak with us in a more personal setting. After each event there is time allotted for networking, usually while having pizza! There is also opportunity for service including our annual CPA day of service event in conjunction with the Illinois CPA Society.

Q: What kind of community can one expect in Beta Alpha Psi?

A: You can expect a community of driven and academically strong students that are willing and able to aide you in your academic and career endeavors. All of our members are willing to help each other out and provide invaluable insight based on their experiences from internships, classes, and what it takes to be successful.

Q: What is your favorite part about Beta Alpha Psi?

A: My favorite part of Beta Alpha Psi is the people that I have been able to meet since joining. I have met numerous people that are also in many of my classes. I have also had the benefit of learning a lot from upperclassmen that are more than willing to offer advice and recommendations.

Q: When and where does Beta Alpha Psi meet?

A: Beta Alpha Psi meets at our scheduled events throughout the semester. Email our secretary, Kelly Jansen, for more information and to request our schedule of events at kejanse@ilstu.edu.
