Milner Library and the Mennonite College of Nursing have collaborated on a digital repository that is providing free online access to the college’s records. While Milner Library has always collected the historical record of Illinois State University in its archives, it has recently introduced a free online digital repository for providing access to the general public. Mennonite College of Nursing immediately seized the opportunity to make their unique history, and current publications, freely available to you!

The digital repository, called ISU ReD, is a cooperative initiative between Milner Library and the Office of the Provost. This growing digital archive of articles, reports, electronic theses and dissertations, data sets, and various other assets reflects the diversity of the research, scholarship, and creative activities of the University community. Although it just debuted in April 2013, ISU ReD already has 110 items and nearly 20,000 downloads!

Currently, the Mennonite College of Nursing collection consists of Annual Reports (2006 to the present), the student-run newsletter Stethoscoop, and two history books. The history books, The Flame Burns Brightly and The Passing of the Flame, chronicle the School for Nursing from 1919 to 1995. Now in the e-book format, you can download them, read them online, and search their contents.

Providing access to friends, alumni, and parents aren’t the only advantages of ISU ReD. Faculty can rest assured that their works now have a permanent digital location and are safely in the hands of Milner Library. With a faculty sponsor, students can submit their endeavors and link it to their resumes and graduate school applications. This provides potential employers a view of their individual scholarship. Prospective students can review what current students produce and recognize the high expectations typical at Illinois State.
