The 2013 Illinois State Athletics Percy Family Hall of Fame class was officially announced in June. The five new inductees into the Percy Family Hall of Fame are:
Stacey (Anderson) Stewart (volleyball), the 1989 Gateway Conference Player of the Year, a three-time all-conference selection and a 1988 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) First Team All-District honoree.
Jill Hollembeak (gymnastics), the 1990-91 ISU Athlete of the Year, the 1991 Laurie Mabry Award recipient, ISU’s Most Valuable Specialist, after breaking the program’s floor exercise record, and a National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) Scholastic All-American.
Nicole Kurth-Duncheon (softball), the single-season leader in wins (26 in 2001), the all-time no-hitter leader, with three, and a two-time All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team selection and an Easton All-American Second Team choice in 2001 while helping the Redbirds win the Valley Tournament in 2000 and 2001 to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Tom Sipula (men’s golf), a three-time All-Valley First Team selection and an individual medalist at the 1992 Valley Championships, where he led the Redbirds to a conference title, the second in program history.
Sam Young (football), the Football Gazette’s NCAA FCS National Player of the Year in 1999, a Sports Network Third-Team All-American in 1999, a Football Gazette Honorable Mention All-American in 2000, and a two-time All-Gateway First-Team selection who helped ISU earn its first-ever Gateway Championship, before advancing to the semifinals of the FCS playoffs in 1999.
The honorees will be officially introduced during the Hall of Fame banquet at 8 a.m. October 5 in the Brown Ballroom of the Bone Student Center. The class will also be recognized during halftime of the Illinois State vs. Western Illinois football game later that day. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
